Dear Friends:
It is an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity
to address the fine men and women of the New Jersey Department
of Corrections - nearly 10,000 strong -- as you peruse the
latest Inside Corrections newsletter.
Like most folks, I really had no idea what goes on in the
prison setting. But having recently spent a day touring
New Jersey State Prison in Trenton and South Woods State
Prison in Bridgeton, I have developed a keen appreciation
for the extraordinary work every one of you -- uniformed
and civilian alike -- do every day. In fact, I hope to visit
the other 12 NJDOC institutions in the months to come.

No 9 to 5 job, this; the corrections profession
takes no holidays, and poses great dangers and stress. However,
many prison employees also spoke to me of the great rewards afforded
by working with offenders, emphasizing that sometimes lives can
be turned around.
For all NJDOC employees - custody staff, teachers,
nurses, technicians, administrative staff and others -- thank
you for your dedication to duty and commitment to the safety of
New Jersey's citizens.
Sincerely,
Jon S. Corzine
