ATTENTION HOUSING AUTHORITY EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS AND COMMISSIONERS!

  1. ASSET MANAGEMENT
    Tuesday / 9:14a.m. - 12:15p.m.
    Room 313
    Designed as an elective course for Housing Authority Executive Directors and Housing Authority Commissioners, this three-hour course provides an overview of asset management as a business model in the multi-family housing industry. HUD’s asset management mandate is explained, and the decisions and actions that must be taken by public housing authorities to comply with the requirements contained in 24 CFR 990 are discussed. Housing Authority staff are invited to attend, if space permits.

  4. THE "NEW" TAX CREDIT BASICS

    You will not want to miss this comprehensive session on the Federal Low Income Housing Tax Credit Program, which will focus on the changes to the program under recently enacted HR 3221 - The Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008.

  5. TAX CREDIT EQUITY AND CONSTRUCTION FINANCE

  4. CONTRACT ADMINISTRATION

    This workshop will review the process and procedures associated with voucher submissions and special claims.  Because of the many changes recently implemented to the HUD handbook, managers continue to have questions about occupancy regulations. Now is the time to bring your questions and have them answered by housing professionals.

  1. SUPPORTIVE HOUSING: A TOOL FOR NEIGHBORHOOD REVITALIZATION

    The benefits of supported housing and special needs housing in community revitalization efforts.  Examples of special needs and permanent supportive housing will be presented that demonstrate the positive impact that supportive housing can have strengthening communities.

  3. EFFECTIVE HOUSING MODELS: ENDING HOMELESSNESS WITH THE HELP OF 10-YEAR PLANNING

  4. SUPPORTIVE HOUSING - OVERCOMING LABELS

    Exploring the myths attached to labels such as chronic homeless, addictions, ex-offenders, mental health consumers and aging out youth.  Examples of successful housing models, including models with mixed populations will be discussed.

  2. INTERDEPARTMENTAL COORDINATION

    Development today demands cooperation between all levels of Government.  This panel will have representatives of DCA, DEP, DOT, EDA and the Governor’s Office of Economic Growth at the table to work through the best way to move a project through the design, location, permitting and development phases.  Sources of subsidy, and other benefits will also be discussed.

  3. FROM HOME TO NEIGHBORHOOD TO COMMUNITY

    Hear from panelists on ways to tackle a community’s most severe problems from within by picking the right tools, sharing resources and building a healthy community.  Panelists will also discuss the myths surrounding affordable housing and how to overcome them and how to use creative ways to build community support for affordable housing which highlight the economic and social benefits for the neighborhood.

    Panelists will discuss strategies for preserving municipalities’ existing COAH affordable housing stock and administering municipalities’ current affordable housing inventory to help maintain quality affordable housing in the community.

  3. BALANCING ECONOMIC AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

    Panelists will discuss how Millville, a NJ State designated Center is developing and how it is balancing the housing needs of the municipality and its residents, the economics of project development and the opportunities for businesses to locate or expand in town.  The panelists will also look at how to balance the needs of businesses and housing to improve the quality of life for the residents.

  4. COAH UPDATE

  5. MEETING AFFORDABLE HOUSING OBLIGATIONS THROUGH COAH

    This session will focus on the expanded variety of mechanisms available to municipalities to address the revised third round COAH growth share obligation. The panel will focus on partnerships between municipalities, non-profits and the private sector as well as best practices in the design and location of affordable housing.
