About New Jersey's Business Incubators

Business incubators can accelerate the successful development of companies by providing a wide range of business support services.  The primary goal of incubators is to produce successful businesses that will leave the incubator financially viable and free standing.

The history of business incubation is a relatively short one with the first business incubator established in New York in 1959.  Today there are over 1000 business incubators in North America and more than 4000 worldwide.  According to the National Business Incubation Association, start-up companies in incubators have a higher success rate than those developing without the critical business assistance provided by incubators.

New Jersey is one of the few states in the nation with a truly collaborative network of incubators.  These networks provide affordable laboratory or office space for businesses but also critical services that may otherwise be unaffordable, inaccessible, unknown or difficult for start-up businesses to find.
