NJDOT replaces structurally deficient bridge superstructure
on Church Street/Yardville-Groveville Road
(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced that the superstructure replacement has been completed on the County Route 609 (Church Street/Yardville-Groveville Road) bridge over all lanes of Route 130 in Hamilton Township, Mercer County, and the roadway has been reopened to vehicles.
NJDOT’s contractor, Berto Construction, Inc., began preliminary construction activity in March requiring the bridge be fully closed to traffic for the duration of the replacement work.
The $1.78 million federally-funded project replaced the previous structurally deficient bridge superstructure running over Route 130 and made some minor substructure repairs. The roadway approaches on either end of the bridge have been resurfaced and some curb and guide rail upgrades were made.
NJDOT maintained all travel lanes on Route 130 in each direction below the overpass during peak period hours. However, single-lane closures were utilized on Route 130 during off-peak hours.
The bridge was originally built in 1950 and had deteriorated over time, requiring reconstruction.
