Overview
The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) in 2001 developed the Succession Planning (SP) program in response to the retirement of a
large group of knowledgeable employees. Guided by policy (pdf 150k), a
steering committee and bureau devoted to SP began working with interested employees.
This program identifies qualified candidates through a voluntary application and nomination process. Once
accepted, individuals are offered a variety of assessment and development tools including a 360 degree evaluation,
mentoring, one on one coaching and networking opportunities with senior leadership.
Senior Leadership extends their support to the program by speaking at regularly scheduled events in Succession Planning's long running
Lunchtime Learning Seminars series.
This program has served as a model for other New Jersey state agencies as well as state transportation departments and public and private
organizations throughout the United States. For additional information and guidance, please contact us.
